Douglas Leather expands to the west!

This month I had the pleasure of travelling to Western Australia to meet with the WA Police regarding Sam Browne belt production for their commissioned officers. It was my first time visiting Perth, and I have to say—it almost felt like visiting a different country. You wouldn’t know you were still in Australia; it has its own distinct feel and character.

During my visit, I attended the WA Police graduation ceremony where I had the privilege of meeting both the Commissioner and the Parade Sergeant. It was a great insight into how they operate and a proud moment to see the precision and professionalism that goes into their ceremonial traditions.

I’m proud to announce that Douglas Leather will now be providing the Western Australia Police with their ceremonial Sam Browne belts. It’s a real honour to not only supply the Australian Defence Force but now extend that same level of craftsmanship and attention to detail to the police force.

In addition, Douglas Leather has been given the great privilege of creating a new Commissioner’s Cross Belt to be worn by the current and all future WA Police Commissioners for ceremonial duties. The original cross belt was made back in the 1880s, and the decision has been made to retire it into a display case to preserve its historical value. I’ve been asked to craft its successor—a project I’m truly looking forward to. It’s humbling to think that Douglas Leather’s name will be carried on this new belt, hopefully for the next 140 years of service and ceremony.

This partnership marks another exciting step forward for Douglas Leather as we continue to grow across Australia. Watch this space—there’s plenty more to come as we aim to build relationships with other state police services in the near future.
